Eggs to dry?

drewby07 May 18, 2009 01:48 PM

Hi all,

I has a female lay this weekend. She only laid 3 eggs, and is in process of laying a fourth that appears to be stuck. I'm dealing with that...

So I set the eggs up with vermiculite and some sphagnum. I candled them and saw veins in all three. The next morning, two of them were slightly dented in, so I added more water and remoistened the sphagnum to cover the eggs.

My question is, if i saw veins, they are viable eggs, not slugs, correct?

They are good eggs. Your medium should clump but not drip if squeezed in to a ball in your hand and I wouldn't cover the eggs for more than a day or they may mold. There tuff just add a little water. Also most of the time if they are to wet they will start to look clear or see threw but not always They can dent for to much water also. good eggs look like this

Yeah they are pretty white, one has a small "window"...which is the one that is dented the worst. It also got rolled around a bit by her....so I'm not sure it'll make it anyway.

The others are plumping up nicely....YAY!

Now I just need to see if I can get this last egg out. She laid the others Saturday night / Sunday morning...so I'm not totally panicked YET.
