Water bowls for adults...

Scott_Sullivan Sep 13, 2003 01:58 PM

Hello all, I was just curious what everyone here uses for adult burms. I currently use a rubbermaid box for water but just wasn't sure what size I will eventually need. It seems like such an easy question but I don't recall it ever being mentioned here. Thanks, Scott.

I use a stainless steel dog bowl because my burm will not soak but will defecate in a larg water bowl.

My albino, who's only 4 1/2 feet or so, has a large dog bowl currently. The large female I'm getting will use a Rubbermaid tub large enough for her to soak in...and yeah, she actually gets in the tub. The only rule I have for the tubs is that they can fit the whole snake in it, should she want to get in it. I've never seen my albino soaking, but the normal I'm getting I've witnessed in her tub on several occassions. I try to get a deep enough tub that she can crawl into it without sloshing the water over the sides (filled 1/3 to 1/2 full).

I use a larger black round tub from Home Depot. Should be large enough for her to get in years from now. I'm still a novice herper, but i've gathered that most of the snakes that are in water are there to drink, urinate/crap, or to drown mites... not to hang out because it's fun, but hey, i could be wrong about that.

Typically speaking, I would say that is correct, some prefer to defecate in water, some have mites, and sometimes they soak just prior to a shed. I'd say the big burm falls into the last catagory because she usually doesn't 'go' in her water tub and definitely doesn't have mites. They will also soak at times to cool down, if the cage is too warm or just they are. All in all, not many variables all around.
