xenodermus javanicus--Dragon Snake

benny333 May 19, 2009 03:52 AM

Hi Guys
Just wondering if any one has every owned one of this beautiful snake xenodermus javanicus. I've seen them in some forums but almost everyone is just repeatingly posting the same article. I do believe that many people are interested to have one if they got the chance, but so far, so little is known about this beauti. I don't think anyone even truly knows what to feed them in domestic. Though it is said that they feed on frogs. But frogs are seasonal, specially in the wild. Maybe just by chance, some one happened to see one feeding on a frog. But really, give it a logical reasoning, frog can't be it's main diet.
The hebbitite setting is a rather easy thing to solve.
It would be great to hear some input from someone who really had the experiance of keeping one.
Thanks

Benny

I'm not sure what would lead you to this conclusion. In most of tropical southeast asia there are two seasons, the wet season and the dry season. In the wet season it rains every day, in the dry season it rains several times a week. Frogs are active most of the year in this kind of climate so it would be very possible for a species to eat only frogs.

You do have a good point Chris, and it's probably right. I had that conclusion because according to the photos I saw, even adults are no thicker than a cigarette, just can't imagine what would a new born be feeding on.

Just saw some available in the forums...They are listed in other snakes and seems to be a pair sold separate for $700 each. I really want some though don't have that much money to spend on one right now.
