hello all
today i noticed that my caiman wasn't opening his nictitating membrane over one eye. he had his eye open but the nictitating membrane stayed over the eye, even when i got him out to clean his enclosure. It looked almost like fluid underneath the nictitating membrane.
he had been on the dry hide portion of the enclosure for the whole day, but that is normal. anyways, i gently cleaned the eyes and he finally opened them, and now they look better.
i know with turtles, things like this are often attributed to vitamin deficiencies, but i supplement with calcium at every meal and vitamins once a week, plus a diet that includes mice, insects, and fish (trout, etc), so variety is no problem.

... i was wondering if anyone could tell me what this could be due to, or maybe if this is something that i shouldn't worry about since he is still eating and otherwise (and now) looks fine.
thanks in advance
harry
