Some of you may remember, about 11 months ago, I had my first encounter with respiratory infection. Based on advice I got here, I took Annika to a vet, got antibiotics, and gave shots daily for a couple weeks. In the middle of it all, she dropped 9 slugs, which was VERY surprising for me! A few months later I went back because I still saw the occasional gaping. I was told she was fine - just had some scar tissue in her lung from the RI.
Well, in the last week, I saw Annika a lot more active than normal. She is hugely full of unfertilized eggs, so I just chalked it up to the maternal instinct of finding a place to lay them. I also saw a lot of gaping, and that part concerned me so I finally made an appointment. Well, I just got back from the vet and even though she gapes a lot and there is even the slight popping when she breathes, the vet said she is clean. He said that last time there was clearly an infection but this time the swab was clean. He also mentioned a milk snake at a local zoo that had similar behavior before dropping a load of eggs.
I just thought I'd share that here because it is something I have never read or heard of so maybe someone here could find it useful.
