Juvenile and Adult Black Rat Pics

patrickbull May 20, 2009 11:32 PM

Well my yard seems to be a Black Rat haven. The juvenile was actually found in my kitchen floor! It must be last year's or the year's before offspring. The two adults were caught at the same basking spot behind my house 2 days apart. The female was caught first and has a mostly white patterned stomach and white patterning inbetween the scales. The male's stomach is all bright red with lots of red patterning between the scales. The males coloration is what I'm used to finding in this area. (Stuttgart) I don't ever see pics of black rats online with such a high red coloration like the ones I find here. I'll try to get stomach pics of both and post them here too.

When I caught the male he was placed in with the female and well they definately liked each other. HeHe I have now witnessed two different copulations from them. I should be expecting eggs in around 51 days I believe. (please correct me if that's wrong) So tell me since the mating and egg laying is taking place in captivity these babies will be considered captive bred correct?

Notice the shelves in the set ups. This allows for more space in the cage for the snakes, allows a climbing area, and a great place to bask.

Yep I've been seeing lots of them around the area of Arkansas I live. The red eared sliders this year are absolutely everywhere as well. Hopefully all will go well with the eggs. I've seen three matings thus far. I plan on getting some of the babies into the hobby since some will no doubt have a very high red content like the father and others I always find in the area. Fresh genetics are always good. I can't wait for ya'll to see the males belly compared to the females. It's like night and day. I'll get those pics up soon I promise.
