5000 Gram Female is Ovulating

fgs May 21, 2009 09:51 AM

This is a photo of my 5000 gram, 5 1/2 foot long normal female in ovulation.

It has been a great year for large clutches for me and I'm expecting several more 10 and 11 egg clutches this season, but none of the females have the potential this one does. Two years ago she laid 15 eggs, but this is by far her best ovulation so I'm getting excited just wondering how many eggs she'll lay this season.

I hope you're all having a great season.

I was wondering how well the eggs in that third clutch did for you. I just had a female lay eggs that looked like that, and I've not had any experience with eggs that look "spotty". So far they seem to be ok.

Jason:

Don't let the spoted eggs concern you, they should be just fine.

Just make sure your humidity is right. I mix vermiculite with water at a one to one ratio by weight. In other words 250 grams of vermiculite to 250 grams of water. I also put a 1/8 diameter hole in both ends of the plastic show box. This hole will allow for a slight amount of ventilation.

Good luck with your clutches.

Wow, sounds like you are working on a record breaker. What is the record clutch size for BPs anyways?

I think the record is 18, but I'm only going by memory.

What day is it again?????

What did you breed her with? I'd like to have some of those genetics in my collection.

Scott:

I bred her to a mojave and a pied.

So what odds would the eggs be? The mojo's would be pretty easy to spot, but what about the normals? Would they be like... 33% pos het pied??

and soon to be more. *fingers crossed*

What would the odds be on that breeding? A mojave and a pied to that normal female? Would it be mojave's and 33% het pieds right?

If I produce a clutch of normals then I will have to assume they are all het for pied. If half of the clutch are mojaves then I will have to assume the normals are just that. There is a possibility I could get both mojaves and het pieds in the same clutch, so if I produce a clutch of mojaves and some normals with pied markers I will sell the male normals as normals and keep back any female normals with pied marks as probable hets and keep them as breeders.

I hope that makes sense.

Ahh, okay I get that. Well I like breed to males to one female to mix up the odds, but I didn't think you could do that with rec. snakes like albinos and pied, but that is a smart way to look at it.

Brian,

Wasn't this girl like 9,600 grams or something a couple years ago? That was too funny..I remeber you got a little agitated at first with all the jokers, but you laughed it off.

LoL! I hope she throws 20 gems for you. Best of luck.

Alan

Alan:

You're so right. I think I had her original weight at 9,600 grams. I think that was because at the time she weighed 9.6 lbs.

Yeah that was pretty funny.

I just had a 17 egg clutch from a 6000 gram girl, if i could get some help with posting pics, i would share with everyone, thanks George

The easiest way to post pics in the froum is to upload the photos to your pet hobbyist photo account (you should have a free photo account for signing up with kingsnake.com). Then, when you go to post in the froum, you can select up to three images from the menu at the bottom of the posting form, then just click "post message".

fgs May 21, 2009 11:18 PM

Jason:

Great to hear from you. She is the biggest ball python I have ever seen also.

I hope to see you in a few months at the Sacramento and San Jose Shows.
