Western Rattlesnake, Western Whiptails, Side Blotched lizards and more

georgio May 24, 2003 08:01 PM

Found a nice, healthy young rattlesnake today on a trail. He was quite calm when my brother and I picked him up with a stick and photographed him. We also saw 2 western whiptails (no pictures and could not catch either of those fast little guys) a bunch of side blotched lizards and fence lizards. Here are some pictures:

Where was this?

The Santa Ynez river. Near lake cachuma in Santa Barbara County (over the mountains opposite the beach of Santa Barbara). If you live out of state Santa Barbara is in between Los Angeles and San Francisco (more towards Los Angeles) in California.
