Plasma Ghosts (aka bloody ghosts type 1)

dayle_boas May 21, 2009 02:17 PM

I got this litter 5-19 from a double hets that were 50% het for type 1 anery and they hit. The parents were from my St. Pierre pure CA Blood to a half Columbian dh ghost. The litter consisted of 1norm, 6 hypos, 1 bloody hypo, and 3 plasma ghosts. Wow, talk about beating the odds! The strange thing, I'm not complaining here, there were no plain ghosts or anerys. Then the same night, I got a litter from her sister that contained 1 norm, 4 hypos, and 3 bloody hypos. Beat the odds again.

I'm not sure, am I the first to produce this morph?

Hope all your breeding are going well this year,

Dayle Speckin

amazing looking kids! Love those deep black eyes on the plasma ghost, how cool! My favorite from the litter pic has got to be the one on the top left, is that just a blood boa or a hypo blood? Can't wait to see the post shed pics and CONGRATS on this amazing litter!

Do you think you've hit the purple boa (second pic)?
That could be really fine looking as an adult.
Is that something like a Pewter, except with the Type I in place of Type II?
Or am I just confused as usual?

Yes, it's expressing the hypo, Blood, and type 1 (Columbian) anery genes together. They do have a purplish tint to them especially the ladder tail Plasma Ghost. I've had regular Ghosts with a lavender tint but it has always disappeared with age. We will just have to wait and see how it goes with these.

Thanks for inquiring,
Dayle

to have produced the Hemogoblin, AKA Hypo Pewter, AKA Bloody Ghost. Before I go any further, let me congratulate you on an outstanding litter, those are really some spectacular animals there!!

Last year, I produced what I thought was a Pewer litter from a Normal 66% Het Blood x Salmon 66% Het Blood. The parents turned out to be het anery also because the litter produced a ghost, an anery, plus a blood boa, a bloody salmon, and a pewter. But the pewter looked like no pewter I had seen before. After posting some pictures, someone posed the question to me that maybe what I had was a hypo pewter. I thought that was very possible but would not know for sure until breeding trials could be performed.

If you are saying that the parents of this litter were from a St. Pierre pure CA Blood to a half Columbian dh ghost, then I am a little confused here. From what I have heard, Type I and Type II anerys are not compatible. So if that is the case, and if the original St Pierre blood line of Blood Boas are said to carry the type II anery gene then something doesn't compute in my mind here with your litter or am I just missing something? How can a Type I Anery and a Type II Anery produce any Anerys? Again am I just missing something here?

Once again, congrats on your litter, it is fantastic.

I don't remember seeing that litter last year! How are all them progressing?
That possible Hypo Pewter is very interesting to say the least!

Do you have any updated info or photo's available on those animals?

Congrats!

I posted the pics on this forum last year, you missed it somehow!!LOL They are all doing fine and are going to be a year old on 06/27. I will be posting some more pics.

Sorry, I didn't word it correctly.

CA hypo Col.anery1 = DHG *(f1)

DHG X Blood = hypo het. blood 50% pos. anery1 *(f2)

hypo het Blood, het anery1 X hypo het. Blood het. anery1 =

Plasmas and Plasma Ghosts *(f3)

Hope this clears up the confusion,

Dayle

serpsel May 22, 2009 08:18 AM

Dayle,

Thanks for the response and for the clarification. But it seems to me that by crossing the CA Hypo Col.anery1 with a Blood Boa you could have picked up the Type II Anery gene from the Blood Boa, potentially making your babies all the more special by potentially carrying both the Type I and Type II Anery genes. Those bloody ghosts are truely amazing looking. So unless you had previously crossed the Blood Boa with a known or poss het Type II anery and produced no anerys, and therby proving that the Blood Boa was not het anery type II, you might have type II anery genes in your litter and your bloody ghosts might actually be of the type II anery flavor!! Or how about this? Some might be type I and some might be type II, or they could all be type I!!

Either way, you hit on a most envious litter and either hit on spectacular odds with the 50% type I anery gene or fantastic odds with the type II anery gene. I by no means consider myself to be a genetics expert so maybe some of the genetics whizes can chime in and I can learn something new here.

Regards,

Alex Tower

There are some certainly interesting genetic things happening with the original St. Pierre strain of bloods. Congrats Dayle - a great looking litter!

Does anyone have a pic of a baby pewter???

When you get a chance after the animals shed it would be great to see close up pictures of the animals. It is hard to get a good idea of what they look like from these pictures. As far as I know you are the first to produce these.
