I'm having a tough time finding perlite (without plant food added) and vermiculite. These used to be pretty easy to find at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Anyone have a good source for these?
I guess I'll order some Hatchrite for now...

If you have Menard's in your area, they sell HUGE bags of coarse grade vermiculite in the insulation section for around $20. I assure you, this bag will last you and a friend a lifetime....it's about the size of a bail of hay. lol.

garden stores, garden centers, small greenhouses and such...as you said Lowe's Home Depot and Wally World.....
as the other post says...insulation...they use these for "block fill" to actually fill cinder blocks while building homes and other buildings...makes the home etc more soundproof....
be careful when asking for block fill....I wanted vermiculite....my place here sold me perlite....it's ok , but I wanted vermic......ask beforehand...they didn;t know the difference ,they just knew the words block fill......look in yellow pages under ? construction?...building supply......places that sell cement and brick and blocks.....etc...
....good luck.......

Yep, got Menard's just down the street. I'd checked their garden section, but didn't think to check the insulation. I'll have to pick up one of those big bags of vermiculite. I ended up finding some bags of vermiculite and perlite at a mom and pop garden store locally.
Ace hardware always has it in stock
