Bolivian birth problem/ ?

jdperkins May 24, 2009 09:32 AM

Looks like something went wrong. This was my first attempt to bread my Bolivian Red Tail. here is my facts any insight would be greatly appriciated.
Cooled the male, 2 years old, and female, 4 years old, and brought them back up to regular temp. Male was all over her from end of November through March. Female was swollen. Pulled male out. Female did not stay at max swell but was still larger. Cage temp was higher then desired 89 ambiant temp but finely got it down to 84 after two weeks of modifications. emaile started to show signs of the birth taking place three days ago. She dropped one slug last night at 7:00pm. This morning she was aggressive to any movement at the front of the cage, I transfered her to a different cage and to my disappointment found only one smashed slug. She appers to be regular size. Is she in danger of having retailed slugs? What should my steps be at this point?

I had something very similar happen to me last year.

My female appeared to ovulate and blew up afterwards, she refused food and appeared very pregnant for months.

She never had any babies, but there was a day when that 'smell'
that boa litters have filled my apartment.

This year I tried again but she never seemed to ovulate. I'm not
sure if the male is the problem or if my temps never got cool
enough.
