devilgofer Sep 13, 2003 06:12 PM

i live in arizona where temps. soar from 107 to 118 in the summer and from 80 to 95 in the winter. can a tortoise live in my backyard at that temp or would it be too hot? also what can it eat? ive heard grass and hibiscus.i just want lots of things about keeping tortoises and pics of your enclosures if possible.

Hi I live in Phx AZ. I have 4 Russian Tortoises that live outside during the summer. I have not tried to hibernate them but I am hoping to this winter outside naturally at about 2ft under ground. I dont know where in AZ you live but here in the winter it gets to about 70 and about 30-35 at night. Are you looking for a specific tortoise or do you already have one? If you want to email me off list you can at cagrlalwys@yahoo.com

Wow I live on Cave Creek also . Desert Torts are illegal here unless you get a special permit which is quite hard to get I have heard. Im sure someone on here knows what you will have to do. They are beautiful and very personable torts. If you go to the link below you will find some info on them. I will try to find some other links for you. Good luck
