Superworm Substrate/Roach Question

TylerStewart Sep 13, 2003 06:40 PM

To get the superworms to lay eggs, what substrate do I need to put the beetles on? Where do they lay the eggs? In the substrate? Or do I need some cardboard rolls or egg crates in there? I've got about 60 worms pupating now and I have a 3 drawer rack thing ready to go, I'm just trying to get prepared. So after the eggs are laid and I move the beetles should I just let the new worms live and grow in the same substrate the eggs were in? Also, I have 4 female hisser roaches and 1 male and they were doing pretty good with making babies, just not fast enough. So this morning I added 5 females and 2 males. But how often do they have babies? How many babies at a time is normal? Also, what substrate is best for them? The store I got them from uses bird seed. I'm afraid if I put them on something they can burrow into, I'll never be able to get them out when I need them. Thanks in advance!

Superworms I can answer.. Roaches I can't.. Put some egg crate or toilet paper rolls etc in there.. they lay their eggs on that... In the last 4 months I've got like.. over 1500 superworms produced from like.. 30 beetles... I have a huge sweater box full of them and not enough animals to eat them all *L* One case of them doing a bit too well for me...
