Just a reminder...

jscrick May 26, 2009 10:45 AM

Just a reminder, the holiday weekend is over. People are actually back at work in the Capitol. Call to remind them of the importance you place on the passage of HB 1500 language this session. You can actually speak to someone.

You might want to say something like -- "I am concerned that HB 3079 may not be in the proper committee for the addition of HB 1500 language. Thank you for your attention to this. I am very grateful to Senator Uresti for his critical help in moving this beneficial language through the legislature to fruition."

Then give them any personal information they may ask for.

Senator Uresti is a good guy.

Phone number is: 512-463-0119.
Fax is: 512-463-1017.
Senator Uresti's webpage for email message is: http://www.state.tx.us/75r/senate/members/dist19/dist19.htm

Thanks,
jsc

Sen. Uresti is on board. They are bringing HB3079 up tomorrow in the Senate Local and Consent Committee. Assuming all goes well, it will be back on the house side in the next couple of days. We may need to call the house sponsor again to insure this bill makes its way to the Governor in a timely manner. Then we may need to call the Governors office to make sure he signs this into law. Updates to come. Thanks guys for keeping this at the forefront...We'll have a few folks to thank in the Texas Capitol when this is over.

Am I wrong, or has this bill, without the language we need, been voted on in both the Senate and House?

The bill is a house bill (hence the HB before the name) It has been voted and passed out of the house. It currently sits in the Senate in the Local and Consent Committee. L&C committee as a rule does not accept amendments. Sen. Uresti in conjunction with Sen. Hegar has agreed to suspend this rule and allow the amendment to add our language. Once the language has been added and gets the needed approval, it goes back to the house (again) for final tweaks before it goes to the governor. Trust me, the route that these bills take is more like a spider web than what we learned in high school politics class.
