So anything seen last weekend?

brhaco May 26, 2009 06:51 PM

I know there were a lot of folks out over the long weekend-anyone see anything, or know of any observations? Alicia and I hit 277 Thurs night-saw no other herpers, and no snakes other than an atrox and rough green.

I saw absolutely nothing. I didn't see any AORs or DORs anywhere in West Texas. All I saw was cactus and rocks.

I also saw a female lep, a female hog and some round tail horned lizards, as well as some other things, but those were to coolest ones.

I meet some great people in a town in West Texas. One guy even gave me a cigar, it was pretty good too, so to the guy that gave it to me, thanks. It was great to meet everyone out there.

Was it a Cuban cigar?

No...it wasn't a Cuban. I can't afford those. It was a cheap knock off though...Cuban seed from the Dominican. Not bad for the price!

It was good meeting you! Congrats on your observations.
West Texas has been both a blessing and a curse. The rain wont stop but it does drive all types of animals to move.

Best Wishes,

I am driving home to the valley this weekend and hoping that the rain will calm down some and that the Bruni area will produce some cool observations. Let me know how the rest of your trip went.

You are most welcome. I enjoyed the camaraderie too! I think the social aspect is half the fun. The other half is in the "INSITU" below!

Very nice Stu. That one looks a lot like the one we found. My in situ shot was nowhere as good as yours though. I was to nervous and hurrying to get a shot before it disappeared. I love the dark ones.

This was the second one and it broke our hearts.

I got lucky on this insitu because I only had time for one shot. It started moving down fast and there were lots of weeds and cracks it could have disappeared in quickly. That dor is a heart breaker for sure. Looked like a nice one too. I found a similar one a few years to our 2 insitus.

StuTennyson Jun 01, 2009 06:35 AM

is that the moon in your pic? interesting composition.

crestedcrazy Jun 01, 2009 06:01 PM

I wish I could say yes thats the moon and no thats not my finger in the pic but I would be lying on both accounts. The shot was actually taken very carefully about 10ft above the snake looking down and that is a flashlight shining up trying not to lose it. The snake was about 20ft. up the rock face. This was my first time to get an in situ shot of an alterna and I really wanted that picture. Wish it could have been better. The first one of the night disappeared before we could get cameras out. This alterna was the third we observed in 15 minutes in the same area. Chris Drake

Hey Chris

I have a deep appreciation for ANY insitu and respect for anyone that gets one! To me they are all great because they are each unique in their own way! Believe me I know how nerve racking it can be trying the get the "insitu shot". Scrambling to get in position and sometimes only having seconds to get it. Yours is no less great. I think I'm still going to pretend it's the moon in your pic!

Me too! Seeing those alterna for the first time was a huge adreline rush. It only took me 5 trips in the last 4 yrs. to finally observe one. It was well worth the wait! Thanks for the kind words.
