Living Space for Rabbits

BrianMRay May 27, 2009 03:24 PM

How much space do adult breeder rabbits need? (Floor space and height) I am trying to breed bigger rabbits, max weight of about 13-15lbs.

I was thinking about keeping them in an indoor rack to control temps. The racks would be similar to the classic cement tub rat racks, but much bigger obviously. Anyone tried this?

I also plan to build a large fenced area outside so they can exercise a couple times a week.

Thanks in advance

this is one of the times I would recommend a book.IE Raising Rabbits for Fun and Profit.
Rabbits are very different from rodents to breed. One rabbit per enclosure. Together for a couple minutes to breed then separate. As for floor space it will depend on the breed you are looking at. Also will take some grow out time and space. What sized feeders are you looking for? A smaller rabbit might work and take less time. Also rabbits do very well outside unless it is too HOT. Then a bunny shed may work better. Outside, on the ground is a great way to proliferate parasites. Raised hutches work better. Like I say....time for a book.
