Feeding TetraFauna Reptomin Soft Gel ?????

alieliza Sep 13, 2003 08:29 PM

What can anyone tell me about the TetraFauna Reptomin Soft Gel that is on the market? I can see that it would be convenient in the aspect that it does not quickly go bad like fresh veggies do. But other than that, are there advantages, disadvantages, nutritional value, etc. can it be used alone, or should it be used along with fresh fruits and veggies, alternated with them?
just looking for some info.
thanks

In my opinion a fresh appropriate salad with variety beats a commercial product.

I have never heard of it, but would be wary using it, especially in lieu of fresh greens like turnips and collards. All the minerals your ig needs are in these foods naturally. You might want to suppliment with calcium powder if you have a gravid female.

What bothered me about the Soft gel was the high fruit content. It is convenient for emergencies but my igs all prefered fresh greens.

This was actually brought up a while ago and I had the same issues then that i do now. My big question was if geletin was part of the make up. Geletin is animal protien which we all know is a BIG no-no

I found a list of ingredients in the reptomin softgels. It does contain animal substance...
Ingredients:
Soybean meal, apples, corn meal, sugar, sodium caseinate, locust bean gum, potassium sorbate (preservative), melon flavor, citric acid, dried beef liver meal, dicalcium phosphate, steamed bone meal, brewers dried yeast, propyl paraben, methyl paraben (both as preservatives), red 40 dye, yellow 6 dye.

i take it "dried beef liver meal" and "steamed bone meal" both classify as animal product, therefore, unsuitable for iguanas.
