Is this a common corn snake?

eddief May 29, 2009 08:11 AM

I posted this in the 'what kind of snake' forum but it seems like it has to be a corn. Sorry for the double post, should have just put it here...

My next door neighbor snapped these pics of a former snake he found by his gate. He sent them to me asking what kind it was, and I'm glad I was home when I got the email because not only does it look like a corn snake, it looks like MY corn snake!

Curious about this, is it indeed a corn snake and is it odd to find one like it? Location is on the Virginia side of the Potomac River which separates Virginia and Maryland.

Looks like a hawk or other critter got to it. First two pics are the one he found, last one is my Kisatchie, 'Butchie.'

I'm in agreement. The DOR is an Eastern Milk.

I googled pics of the milk snake and it sure does look like it. Any chance it is a juvenile black rat snake?

Nope-it's an eastern milk, 100% positive.

Cool, thanks very much. Never seen one before and he said by 5:45 this morning it was gone, fox or coyote food probably.

But I'll be on the lookout for a live one!
