Minimum cage height?

jsschrei May 29, 2009 12:05 PM

I am going to need more caging in the near future for some growing boas. In your opinion, what is the minimum height cage you would house an adult female boa in? For example, I see that many cages come in 11.5/12" heights and 17.5/18" and 24" heights.

Would love to hear any recommendations. Thanks in advance!

A lot is personal preference. I have Boaphile 421D's (11 1/2" tall) and also have some larger Melamine cages 4' x 2 1/2' x 18" The larger cages are nice for the added floor space but from a vertical standpoint there is no need for the additional height. Only advantage of a taller cage IMO is allowing to have a shelf option. Effectively increases the floor area while staying in the same 4x2 footprint

A agree with Dave. I almost always do you know, but especially so this time. I have been using 11.5" tall cages for most of my Boas for nearly 20 years and the Boas have been happy enough in them to make me a few babies.
