Steve Brockschmidt bred an Orange Tail Hypo Harlequin to a Motley and produced Hypo Motleys from that breeding that he dubbed Hotleys back in 2005 or 2006.

The Hotleys were created using a Harlequin Orange Tail Hypo female X my Motley male, so it's a Harlequin Orange Tail Hypo Motley. I did the breeding because of the Super Motleys having no pattern after seeing the Patternless animal Brendan produced. I was hoping to see something weird pop up in the first breeding, the Hotleys were not what I was going for. I will breed two Hotleys together this coming year with hopes to produce a new looking Super Motley.

When I first produced them in 06 I e-mailed the Magee Brothers and Tim actually came up with the name and I decided to use it. I put them on the Boa forums as H.O.T.leys and some think I should have kept the name that way, maybe I should have. I decided to just call them Hotleys because I didn't think it was that confusing and it was easier to write then the full name or the abrevation with all the periods. I have seen Brendan Magee selling HOT Hypos (Harlequin Orange Tail Hypos) since then and maybe that has added to the confusion. I have also seen people confusing the name for any Hypo Motley and I have done my best to correct them in private messages to not embarrass anyone, maybe I should have just posted in the topic.

So far I am the only one to do the breeding and they cant be made with the Salmon bloodline. There are only 8 true Hotleys that exist so far from the 06 and 08 breedings and I still have 4 of them. Ron Micholotti from Class Reptilia has an 06 male, Manny Frade from Florida has an 08 female and Buddy Young has a 1.1 pair from 06, Elvis and Rio. Buddy bred Elvis to an Orange Tail Hypo and produced only Hypos but sadly no Hotleys.

I have never seen anyone advertising a Hotley for sale although it may have been said they were in e-mails. There is one OT Hypo being advertised as a Hotley sibling but it is actually one of the babies from Buddy's Hotley male and not a sibling to any Hotleys. I e-mailed and called the person about it but he was unsure of the snakes history and even after explaining it to him and sending pics he has not changed the add yet.

Sorry for all the confusion, hope this clears it up some. Here's a real Hotley and the parents that produced them. The first two pics are Buddy's Elvis as a baby and is the second pic is in John Berry's book on morphs. The last pic is Mom as a baby next to a normal Hypo. The female Harlequin Orange Tail Hypo came directly from Brendan Magee in 2002 and she is a spectacular animal. At 7 years old and over 7 foot now and after two litters she is still as bright and colorful as she was in these 06 breeding pics, that and the Harlequin bloodline in my opinion is what makes the Hotleys so special.

Sorry for the long post but that's it, there are still only 8 Hotleys and I produced them all. If anyone is selling one I seriously doubt that it's the real deal.

Thanks,
