mold starting to grow???

sjtownsend May 29, 2009 04:06 PM

Hi, I have a (9)egg clutch right about 2 weeks now and they are starting to grow some of the light fuzzy mold between them . Does anyone know what type of solution I can spray or wipe on that won't harm the eggs? OR should I just leave it? Any info is appreciated.
(this particular clutch is on egg crate and raised 1" above the 1/2 inch of water at the bottom of the egg box)

thanks
Steve

I use athletes foot spray (gold bond) or you can mix poroxide and water and spray them I use to do this with corn snake eggs. The poroxide mix I used was 1 part poroxide to 1 part water. You just have to do a light spray.

The eggs themselves look ok, but they have alot of light mold growing between them, almost looks like they are getting covered with cob-webs. It doesn't seem like a problem now, but I have 6 more weeks to go.
Thanks for the info, I'll try it out.

Have you candeled them lately? I lost a clutch last week that had nice big veins in them the first week. They started to develope mold on them and by the end of the second week there were no veins present . I can only hope my next clutch goes better. This is the first time I lost an entire clutch. It's a horrible feeling. Best of luck to you!

Yes, all but 1 candle good. It is in the middle and was leaking from the time I removed them from the mom. I think the liquid is what caused the mold to start. Thanks

Take a trip to your local aquarium supply and get a bottle of methylene blue anti-fungal egg treatment...I use it in my no-substrate boxes and have not seen any mold in quite a while now...good luck
