personally I retire them after 4 or 5 litters and or at 5 or 6 months old. Usually by then they are dead weight.

Hi,

I was wondering why you would not want to bring in new females right after the third or fourth birth. I want to feed off females to my snakes and I was told the older they get the more fat their bodies hold on to and have very little value to the snake you are feeding to.

I get up to 8 litters from my females, cycle bred so they are not with a male when they give birth and therefore not geting impregnated right away. That's about a year, maybe a ittle more.

Males about a year or even two.

Of course, first sign of not producing and into a snakes belly (or the freezer) they go!!!!!

Had a gross one last week. Mid age female, only a few litters. Had pulled the pinks for feeding and when I went to move her to a males cage, she had something hanging out her backside. Clearly stuff that shouldn't be hanging out and her abdomen was contorted, clearly in pain, offed her right away.

Breeding is NOT for the weak at heart (or stomache for that matter)

>>Had a gross one last week.

I had a mom died during pregnancy a few weeks past. Also noticed 2 with tumors last night. As they are with child they weren't put down, but these are their last litters.
