I used tap because I never knew anything about what was in it. I
was told that 7.5 Ph level are harmful to any living thing. I am
not sure about hw true or not true it is, but my water is over
7.5 and tastes like metal. I use RO (Reverse Osmosis)Water. I
jst feel a lot better about that. I hope this helps!! have a
good one and A GREAT QUESTION!!

In my city during the summer when the algea blooms it gives our water a bad smell and taste. There has been a recent study on just whats in the water as well and it doesn't sound to good. They've found traces of all kinds of stuff. Antibiotics, pain meds, you name it it has it. Bottled water on the other hand has the ph of 4 which is quite acidic. Who knows what other traces elements are really in it.a ph of 7.5 is closer to neutral than 4 . I'd like to know why someone said that was bad. having a to acidic system can lead to yeast infections.

Sorry I forgot to say IMO. I used to do fish and a lot cannot
tolerate it, and with my water tasting like metal and 7.5 was
the highest my Ph tester would do, I figured that was bad. Sorry
for the mis understanding Treeserpent

I'd be extremely surprised if bottled water really was pH 4, that's REALLY acid. I test water regularly and most bottled water is a perfectly neutral 7. I'd suggest retesting.

I use boiled and cooled tap water for my snakes, but am considering filtering as well, as I hear old rusty pipes can cause high iron levels which could eventually be harmful

RO is where its at. Those impurities that mess with your water can be completely stripped away with a reverse osmosis system. The RO system has a clean line and a drain line. It pushes your water through the filters, which happens at a slow rate, and separates the good water from the waste water. The good water builds up in a storage tank that is hooked up to a small faucet. I installed mine in my laundry room so I didnt have to make any modifications to my sink. I just needed a split for the water line and an adapter piece to connect a regular garden hose to the RO machine input. Works great! The one I got was from lowes for $150. Makes for EXCELLENT drinking water too. We use it for all our ice cubes, drinking, cooking, etc.

We have good tap water here in Mich. I used it for years with no problems. I now filter my tap water with a Brita Filter just to be on the safe side ever sense many herpers say tap water is bad for herps.

At my house, we have a well and we use softener for it. I drink probably 1/2 gallon of it every day myself and that's what I use for my boas too. I've never tested the PH level, but I've never had a problem.
