My Bearded Dragon Is Driving Me Crazy!!!

Paradon May 30, 2009 05:20 AM

It's been almost two weeks or maybe two weeks already and my bearded dragon is still skittish around me. It drives me crazy because if I pour a some vitamin/mineral coated crickets in the cage he just sits there looking at me giving me the stink eyes. He wouldn't even go after them! I have to leave the room or hide somewhere where he can't see and then he would jump off his perch and start eating the crickets. Yep, he will not eat in front of me. What gives? I thought bearded dragon are supposed to be comfortable around people...at least my female is anyway. Thank god! Do I have to wait until he is more at ease with his surrounding? Well the good news is even though he is small, he does eat his salad.

It depends on the dragon. I have a year and half old female that still doesn't like me very much. However I have others that seem to be very comfortable around me.

Yeah mostly time makes them realax more. If you have a glass cage cover up three sides that may help relax him. He will come around as he sees you are not going to eat him. Good luck!

I got a baby BD at the start of last summer.
Her name was quickly changed to B...h
She would huff and puff at me any time I opened the cage, would not allow my hands any where near her. She tagged me a few times too.
If I approached the cage and tried to put my hand inside(change bowls, drop food wutever) she would run at my hand and try to get me!
So I started holding a paper towel over the back of my hand to allow my self to get in for maintenance.
This worked she would not even attempt to bite it.
I did that for about 2 months. When she was about 14" she started calming down, and became pretty friendly. No more nips, no more beard.. no more darkness...
