Edisto Island kings

Just thought I'd post a picture of the pair that I picked up last year at Daytona. They are actually 2007 animals. Kevin Enge said that he couldn't get them eating well enough for the 2007 show so he held them for a year.

YA! Edistos are cool. I got 1.2 from Kevin sevral years ago and I could not get any of them to eat anything but water snake. I lost two and sold one in the end.

yeah, the other trio that I have I bought as non-feeders from Kevin in 2005/2006, but they readily took brained pinkies.

Thanks Randy. I saw on the milk forum that you have some Extremes cooking. Very cool. Got anything else interesting in the incubator?

yes yes yes. i guess its just me? but imho the SC edistos are WAY diff. than the Ga.kings. kevin has some of the best. i remember seeing those on his table last year at daytona. i also beleive it was kevin who coined the name "mosaic" for the edisto line many years ago. its kinda sad to see the Ga.line now being called mosaics, kinda like every corn is an okeetee now and every fla.king is a brooksi ahhhhhwellll...
you have some real screamers there! congrats and good luck with them.,,,,,,,,,,,thomas davis

They do have interesting patterns. I don't see how they're more "mosaic" than the other ones though. This name thing really bothers you huh?

FWIW, it's not like every snake from the S. Georgia line is being called "mosaic"... only the ones with obviously "mosaic" patterns. I think it's funny that you find it "sad". Our economy is sad... the Cleveland Cavaliers are sad... these are just snakes.

thomas davis Jun 01, 2009 05:00 PM

well lytlesnake there was a time that these names meant something usally about the locale... i guess that time has gone... okeetee corns were from near the okeetee hunt club in sc which is known for the deep orange black bordered corns. NOW every corn seems to be marketed as an okeetee same thing with brooksi fla.kings.
imho thats SAD... just like i think its SAD the Ga. line is being MARKETED as mosaic when in fact they are WAY diff. than the edistos, but call them whatever you want to i dont really care. whats really SAD is that i have to explain any of this this at all.

You don't need to explain anything for my benefit. I already agreed to call them something else. I didn't name them though. I feel like I'm repeating myself. Have a good one!

Tell you what, I'll call the other ones S. Georgia Eastern Kings with tapestry patterns. It really doesn't matter to me. Of course other people are free to call them what they want. If the Edisto Island, SC line already had that "mosaic" name, I may prefer to call the S. Georgia line something different. However, I didn't develop the bloodline, so it's not my place to rename it either. I'll put "tapestry pattern" in lower case so it's not part of any "brand name", so to speak.
