Have all 48 babies, all heve shed and about 1/2 have eaten FT. The others seem to have no intrest.(Of course the albinos & sunglows!) How do I get them to take FT for the first feed? Is there a trick or should I go get live for now? Thanks for your help guys. They are 2 1/2 weeks old..Hope you like the pics I posted. Feed back is alway nice.

I'd say as long as they're eating live, stick with that till they get a little stronger an or until the mice get big enough to harm your babies. I'm sure by the time they're big enough to move on from hoppers they'll eat F/T. I wouldn't trust feeding live after hopper size just to be safe.

Not to many pet stores have 20-40 live pinks or fuzzy mice and dont know where to purchase them . They want $1.49 each, That's nuts. I have 100's of FT mice. I must have to figure something out. I live in New York. Don't know if anyone ships live. Thanks for your help.

Hmm,
the best thing to do is find a breeder in your area. Sometimes that could be hard but you can always put a post up on here askin for rodent breeders in your area. I know there are a couple probably more just don't know how close they are to you. Another kinda sneaky way if you can't find your own rodent breeder would be to find out when the pet shop gets their delivery. Figure that out,go there around that time and talk to the supplier. I'm sure your order will be worth his time cause you can get all of your feeders from him/her. Another thing you can do is go on craigslist and hit up the pet section in you area. I've seen rodent breeders advertising on there in my area so maybe you can find someone on there. I agree,$1.49 is crazy for a pink or fuzzy but the pet shops need to make their money. Hope this helps some.

I've had good success this year getting babies on F/T by heating up the fuzzies/crawlers with a blowdryer, right before offering them to the babies...

The heat from the mice really seems to help the babies realize it was food...some of them took F/T this way, the second time I fed them...(first time was live). There were a few stubborn ones, but now, at 5 weeks old, they are all on F/T.

Many times there are people who breed their own rodents and sometimes even breeders of rodents that advertise in the news letters.

Im by no means an expert but here is what I did with my newborns so far this season...
I would offer them all warm frozen thawed and if they didnt take I would leave the rat pinks in their tubs overnight. In the morning I would check the tubs and there would be 1 or 2 that would feed. After they take their first one they are eaiser to take their next one. Ide wait a day or two and repeat...
Each time 1 or 2 more would eat. I just kept repeating till everyone ate. At about the 3rd or 4th meal they were striking and wraping instead of just eating what i placed in there. I had 2 litters this year with 14 live babues in each one and it worked for me. I have one more litter expected and plan on using the same method. Hope i was of some help. That litter looks awsome.. Was it a Albino to DH sunglow paring?

It was a Het Albino Female x DH Sunglow male breeding. Did what you said yesterday some ate. I'll try again in a day or 2. Hopefully the albibos and sunglows will start doing as the others. I got my hands on some live hoppers and they had mites, so am very hesitant to do it agian. Guess I'll give another shot in a day or so. Thanks for your help
