Is the ESU super UV coil lamp ok to use for uvb? It produces 3% uvb and 15% uva. I have two baby red ear sliders. Thanks!

not bad but probably not enough UVB
for the price of the coil lamp and some heat bulb and fixture you could probably get a mercury vapor bulb that produces BOTH.
I agree that a combination mercury vapor light is in many ways better (more UVB, more convenient, lasts longer) but at http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/lighting.html I think it says that either 3% or 5% UVB is generally sufficient. I`ve used this type of light for nearly two years, buying it in the fall so it would be strongest in the winter and then supplementing it with natural sunlight in the summer as I assumed it`s output weakened. Maybe it was supplementing with natural sunlight (not every day), but I`ve had no problems with my turtle`s shell--it`s hard and healthy--even through the colder months when he hasn`t gotten natural sunlight.
