Definitely gravid...and more action from link

Joe Sep 13, 2003 09:41 PM

The female I mentioned a few posts now is now extremely gravid. on each side of her I can see 2 or 3 lumps and there is room for plenty more between those. She is fatter than I have ever seen Link (and that is saying a lot). I got some peat and covered nearly the whole tank with a few very deep areas (5 inches) and the shallow areas being about 3 inches deep. She is nearly as lumpy as the picture marcia has on her website of Darla if my memory serves me correctly.

Also, I was down near the tank turning the fogger on to try and get some of the peat wet, and I got to watch Link bobbing and displaying with another female (not the gravid one, but another of my WC females) and then saw him jump on top of her. It pretty much ended right away with her scurrying off, but at least I know Link is trying with the other girls and leaving the gravid girl alone for now. I just wish the Link and Lucky would get together so we could have some second gen CB babies for the first time. They just don't seem interested in each other. I am thinking about seperating the tank and leaving those 2 alone and putting the rest on the other side just to see if I can get some action from the 2 of them. Anyways, I will update ya'll when she lays but now I am going to marcia's site for a review on the incubation process to get ready.

Congrats! That is really good news. If the eggs are fertile they will be the first fathered by a cb male. I have 2 cb males and neither have shown any interest in the females. If I put my wc males together they will display and Darrell will even chase and attempt to bite. If I put either of my cb males with either of the wc males same scenario, wc chases & displays, cb hides or doesn't pay any attention. I have been keeping my 2 cb males together for some time with no display or friction but yesterday I found one hiding so maybe they are starting to become aware of the gender issues One can hope since my cb female has laid infertile eggs I know that they are old enough at least.

Keep us posted.

Marcia
