Enigma, yes or no?

capcaliber May 31, 2009 12:41 AM

Hi, does anyone here actually have Enigmas? And if so, do yours have any abnormalties? I read a few lines about them having problems. I want to get one, but not if I end up with a specimen that might have a huge risk of having or passing down hereditary defects to its offspring.

Some do, some don't. Done breed enigma x enigma and try to outcross them as much as possible. It's called the enigma spins like with spider ball pythons.

I received two on a trade once, and both had trouble catching prey...or even seeing for that matter. They also demonstrated the "walking in circles" bit.

They aren't something I'm considering getting involved in, not until most of the genetic kinks get smoothed out.

I have an Albino Bell Enigma and I love him! He is so beautiful!
Yes he does do the "whirly bird" walking thing (walking in circles cocking his head from side to side) but I think it just makes him even more unique and special! I would not breed him of course but they make fine pets! He is so mellow and sweet! He doesnt seem to have any problems catching his prey either. He is a bit sensitive to light but we just make accomodations for him and he seems very happy.

If you want one for a pet- By ALL means get one!
If you want to breed- I wouldnt....JMHO

I have a few Enigma's My adult male is fine super dude with no issues. And i held back one of his daughters and she did the spinning but i have not noticed it for awhile, if i do breed her im going to out-cross her and her children to see if i can get rid of that defect or if the offspring show it at all? But if your interested in getting one im sure if you ask the breeder they can tell you if it has any defects or not? Some might, some might not. But then again they cant be held liable if it does pop up at some point.
