Hej all
Does anyone know which species of iguana is the longest/heaviest in the world?
i´m thinking it might be from the Cyclura genus, but not sure at all.
Any info will be great.

Thanks

Jonas

My guess would be the Andros Isle Iguana [Cyclura c. cyclura] which may reach lengths of over 4' with a very stocky build. Some individual C. n. nubila, C. lewisi, and C. cornuta may reach close to as large as well.....Here is a pic of C. c. figgensi which is closely related but not as large as the Andros Isle Iguana. The color is similar but the Andros Iguanas are, I think, prettier...

Highly unlikely you'll ever see one unless you go to Andros and spend a lot of energy and time....Good luck as you would need it...Their not extremely rare just extremely hard traveling to see them...

To see Andros Island iguanas, join a research trip with the Shedd Aquarium. http://www.sheddaquarium.org/rockiguana.html
It's the trip of a lifetime.

consistently bigger than subcristatus? I've always wondered how they measure up - or are we talking only about cyclura?

Actually I was talking about any Iguanas but I have a paucity of knowledge about the Galapagos Lizards but still thought Andros Iguana's were larger...thanks
