Good looking snake. Not an expert on hypo, but that snake is a deserticola (Great Bain) not an annectens. Looking @ the bit of pattern revealed (neck & the big light brown patches) in the pics, I'm almost sure of it. There are quite a few guys on this forum that have got greater experience w/ Pits (Gophers) than I do so see what they say. What's the history on that snake?

I picked her up today from a local store. They said they bred her themselves from 2 San Diego Gophers. They are pretty trustworthy people but maybe they just do not know there gophers. They also said the pair had a few clutches and on there last cluch was the only time they ever produced hypos. They told me the only varient they produced were albinos.
I also am in Las Vegas and great Basins are not legal to sell. So I hope it is not a Great Basin. But if it is I can find a nice w/c male to pair her with.
Hello
Cool looking snake. I dont think that is a San Diego Gopher. Looks like it has a lot of Sonoran Gopher influence but over all looks like a Gopher cross / hybrid. Maybe some Great Basin influence like Darren says. Its hard to say really but I am 99% sure it is not San Diego.

I have to agree with Jason.....lots of affinis influence based on what I can see of the head and dorsal pattern. Definitely a mutt though. I would suggest keeping her as a pet and not breeding her to avoid further confusion and misrepresentation. There in lies one of several problems with pet store snakes. (No offense intended to you pet store guys that are more consciences)..... like Scott and the guys over at Amazon!

No offense taken! The problem is ANY pet store (including us) get free animals from people. Many times the animal has been passed from hand to hand for years. Nobody knows the origin.
Likely, the reason John singles us out is our policy on this topic. He knows we strive for knowledge and will not misrepresent. In the case of a "Snake Doe" we just pass it on as is, with no warranty of purity. We even offer them as "pet quality, not capable of breeding". This way the buyer gets a cool pet and has no delusions.
Sadly, the snake could again get passed on and then...................... , well you get the idea.

Thanks for the replys. She was given to me so I am really at no loss. I will see if I can trace back where she came from. I have no intensions of breeding muts. I will stick to the bull snakes.
Yep, it screams sonoran to me and that would explain the hypo gene showing up along with albinos.
Cool pet.

Yup i'd have to agree on that one not being a hypo annectans and theres a real affinis lookin head to my eyes.

Al what variety of gopher is that in your picture? I love the look and reminds me of some pictures of McGurty's I've seen but still looks very different from the pics I've seen. Those colors and contrast are crazy.
Sean.

Hi Sean,
Thats one I hatched a few years ago now and it came from my F1 super hypo, she (the F1) was a gift from my good friend Michel Klumpers. He developed a Hypo line and she was a 'one of a kind' hatch that popped out after several years of breedings. The markings are black not dark purple and do not fade out at all with age.

That critter is crazy looking!
