The dragon pictured arrived here a little less than a week ago. I was told that I would be receiving a 20" 2 year old dragon that had been bought at Petsmart. What I got was a 20 3/4", 776 gram, super sweet tempered giant. He might be a little overweight, but not by much, he is just all around huge. He is the heaviest, and largest (not longest) dragon I have. The only other dragon in his size range is my big female Simone that prior to her surgery this spring pushed 800 grams. She also came from a pet store.
My point is maybe breeders are breeding too much for color and the size and durability of the species is being lost. Strange that 2 huge dragons come from pet stores that don't push what "morph" they are. It's a shame if these large bloodlines are lost to the designer set.
In addition, this dragon and Simone are puppy dog tame. They will happily snuggle with you forever.
I totally agree.
Even if there's still big dragon with morph, I also think that we are forgetting the size when concentrating on colors.
My male Flake also comes from a petshop and now he's just under 22" and 700g.
This picture is 6 months old and at that moment he was only 8 months old. Yeah, he's well fed

I totally agree with you, too! My female, which is a store bought, is over 20" and is still growing.
He was the runt of the pet store beardies too!
Hypomelanic 22.6 inches big

What's his weight? I have some dragons that size too and at about 700 grams, but they are not as massive (head, arms, legs, etc.) Most of mine actually have a longer leaner body build. But then again my long dragons are the offspring of an almost 800 gram pet store female mated with a Dachiu greenie/orange german giant that is only barely over 20". He weighs in the high 600's.
Keep in mind the one pictured is certainly not a "normal" and looks very much like yours. It just surprises me that of my 26 dragons, the pet store morph is the largest.
This is a girl we a over a year ago....22" 906 grams next to an 18" 478 gram female....she was a true monster.

What happened to her?
Nothing....I could not get her to breed so I let her go to someone who wanted to try to breed her....
She was to big, I guess, and after talking with "Dachiu" they had the same challanges with some big dragons that they had as well.

Rob once told me Good Luck with breeding my 800 gram female. But, I had no problem getting her bred at all.
at the moment he is around 700 becouse he is breeding the large and [bleep]y dragons at this moment he is by John also known as B22 on this forum to breed with his big females and girls that be the boss of all his males.
when we stop breeding with him he will get more around 750 gram in weight becouse he dont get that much exercise anymore
We all know beardies can be different weights and size. I think it is just about the right weight for each beardie. The hard part is understanding how to look at a beardie for weight problems.
