carmel stripe

boxienuts May 31, 2009 08:30 PM

This is carmel stripe female who is now 1 year old, she is also possibly het for amelanistic (het butter stripe). In some ways I think she is a butt ugly, blah looking snake, but somewhat interesting looking in a suttle way.

Thanks for the pic boxie!!! I have yet to see a pic of a caramel stripe. You are right, not too impressive color wise. Funny how adding amelanism to mix changes all that. I wonder if adding hypo (amber) would sharpen it up? I am shooting for caramel and amber stripes down the road in another three to four years. Wondering if I should rethink? LOL!!

like the old addage states, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you like her, who cares. BTW, I like it, I think caramels are neat looking. Yeah they aren't eye poppers, but something different. Heck, you probably see fewer caramels now than butters.

You really dont see many caramels are even ambers anymore for sale as much as in the past. I think even butter morphs are getting a bit outdated LOL!!

Yeah there are newer more popular morphs than the butter, but I still think butter stripes will always be a favorite of mine in terms of pure good looks and bright striking color.

I think my ALL time favorite morph is the butter stripe. My male is by far my "prettiest" corn followed by my ultramel female who is turning 2 this year and was just a bit too small to brumate and breed. Next year those two get to do the dance in the quest for goldusts and striped goldusts LOL!!

That is a great project. I would also like to produce a diffuse butter someday, I also have another butter project in mind.

Last year ('08) I bred a Butter Mot to a Bloodred to produce the first generation of a Diffused Butter Project (or Sulpur).

Here is a glimpse at what the first generation Outcrossed Bloodreds of that pairing look like, at least the ones that I produced anyway:

Those are older photos. The youngsters are much larger now but have retained the same basic coloration. I thought that the red would intensify in them as they grew but so far that has not been the case. I am looking forward to seeing what the F1s turn out to be in 2011.

Yeah, blood hets appear to be quirky in the expression of the blood gene. Some obviously express the gene even though "normal", and some look like typical normals without a hint of expression. Some of the coolest looking Okeetee morphs I have seen were produced by crossing blood red into them to really pop the colors out. Then again, all blood reds arent created equal with expression of the trait with regards to the degree of diffusion.

How do Sulphur corns generally look? I am definitely interested in the butter expression and potential with various other morphs and am curious as all heck!! I was also wondering if anyone has produced creamsickles using the butter variant and how those offspring may look.

Best of luck in 2011!!

I kept a few Outcross Bloods het Sulpur that I hatched in '08. I'll hopefully be able to show you how they look in 2011!
