Finally!!...baby boas to play with...

JJsBoas Jun 01, 2009 02:50 AM

Hey Everyone,

First off, congratulations to all who’ve had some very outstanding litters so far this year. There have been some REALLY COOL litters recently born these past couple weeks.

As for me, I finally got my boa season off to a start Nothing groundbreaking born here, just some hypos and normals. But hey… it’s still very exciting to find a new litter of baby boas in a cage . Always a sight to behold. And who can argue with the fact that newborn baby boas are ALWAYS fun to play with, regardless of what morph they are

Well, here’s the play by play. Last Wednesday late night, I found a pre-birth stool. This past Saturday morning, I found the mama-to-be under her newspaper, apparently “nesting.” Came home from class at around 4pm and found BABIES!!!!! Final count is 21 babies (plus 7 slugs): 13 Hypos Poss. DH Sunglow & 8 Normals Poss. Het Albino.

Here’s mom, looking good, during normal off-breeding time. She’s a ’03 Normal that I picked up in trade from a local pet store.

She was bred by my proven 2000 DH Sunglow. This is what I found when I walked into my boa room this past Saturday afternoon. You can see the babies on the right side, under a couple layers of newspaper. Mom looks like she’s being soooooooo careful.

Here are the babies after I removed the proud mom (who was calm as can be during her removal to a holding tub) and pulled back some of those newspapers.

Removed the litter from the baby goo, and here’s a pic of the entire litter in a holding tub. Great stuff. Gotta love playing in baby boa goo

Just a couple close ups in the tub.

Well, that’s it for now. Time to wait for that first shed and get these lil ones eating.

I don’t have any other litters due until August. I'm eagerly anticipating my very first Argentine litter (100% pure BCO) and hopefully a litter of super hypos.

Thanks for looking. Good luck to you still waiting on litters.

All the best,

Jay

"She’s a ’03 Normal that I picked up in trade from a local pet store."

Nothing "normal" about her, she's smokin hot, look at all those pinks and reds!!!!!

And the babies look pretty good as well!!!!!

Congrats Jay!!!!

Agreed, she is no morph but by no means "normal". Those babies clearly take after mom, look at the colors in those hypos.

Nice litter!

Yeah, I do love this "normal" gal of mine. She did throw some exceptional babies, especially matched up with my stud DH Sunglow.

Thanks so much for the compliments.

Congrats! Awesome looking litter there!

Thanks BillyBoy,

The litter looks great, and I was blessed with good odds (alot more hypos than normals).

Thanks again...Jay

I've been waiting impatiently for a litter to drop over hear. My anery slugged out a few days before this litter and I was eagerly anticipating some ghosts from her. But these new little guys and gals will more than fit the bill.

Thanks again,

Jay

I would not call that a normal anything. To begin with the color on her sides is outstanding and has passed that trait onto some of her offspring from what I can see. She looks better than alot of pastel jungles I've seen.Would deffinantly NOT sell her babies for a low ball price.

JJsBoas Jun 01, 2009 02:16 PM

Thanks, I will have to admit that there are some very "clean" and "contrasty" babies in the bunch, especially considering that they were only dosed with 1 part hypo. I think the mom does have some outstanding genes, especially when coupled with a hypo. She had a litter of normals last year, but something about the hypo gene just turns something on.

Thanks again for the compliment.

I do love this "normal" gal. She's awesome, and was such a good girl when I was taking her out after giving birth. I've told myself over the past couple years that I would not holdback anymore hypos, but after seeming of these lil wigglies, I may have to hold onto a pair or two or three . We'll see.

Thanks again for the kind words,

Jay

I've got an '07 jungle male from you that I can't wait to pair up with this girl in a year or two Thanks for the compliment, and please say "hi" to my buddy Kyle for me.

Big congrats to you again, for those SWEET VPI T sunglows.

She looks a lot like my EBV Red Group female I just posted. Thats a really nice looking NORMAL!! and a great looking litter. GOOD LUCK!

Markos

JJsBoas Jun 01, 2009 02:24 PM

The pet store that I got the female wouldn't/couldn't give me any background on her. I wish I knew more but oh well. Regardless of her bloodlines, I love having her in my "lineup." Now she gets a well-deserved year off, and then hopefully one of my male jungles will be up the task of breeding her.

Thanks again for the kind words,

Jay

DID YOU SEE MY PAIRING? WHAT DO YOU THINK? CAN LET YOU KNOW EARLY NEXT YEAR !! I'LL KEEP IN TOUCH. MY GUY IS A HYPO JUNGLE. CHECK OUT MY POSTS A BIT FURTHER DOWN. Thanks!

Markos

kylefrost Jun 01, 2009 02:22 PM

Nice Jay! That girl made some GREAT looking hypos for you. Way to start the season off right! If we get a simultaneous break from our schedules I'd love to check them out.
All the best with the rest!

JJsBoas Jun 01, 2009 02:30 PM

What's up Kyle,

Thanks, man. Yeah it was great to get this nice litter (All healthy, full-term babies, except for the 7 slugs), especially since my Anery slugged out on me just a few days prior. No ghosts this year. But these babies do make up for it. The DH Sunglow sire seemed to really "turn on" something with these babies, because this female's litter of normals last year looked merely "normal" (for lack of better words). Even a couple of the normals in this current litter look sweet, in my humble opinion.

But yeah, hopefully, I'll get ahead of my study schedule and give myself some free time during the weekend to have a baby boa "show and tell." Keep in touch, buddy.

Now gotta wait for those Argentines to drop

Talk to you later,

Jay

JasonRobeck Jun 01, 2009 02:56 PM

Very nice. Too bad more local pet stores don't have "normals" like that.

AbsoluteApril Jun 02, 2009 02:40 PM

Jay, Amazing litter! I cannot get over how crisp, clean and wonderful those hypos are, something very special going on with that momma boa, she's gorgeous! Looking forward to some post shed pics, I gotta see more of those hypos!
