Double fanged?

Morgana Jun 01, 2009 03:58 PM

Ok, this is Timber Rattler number eight we've moved out of the yard so far this year. (The joy of living deep in the woods.) While hubby was holding him so I could get the lid off the bucket to put him in I noticed these weird fangs.

Has anyone seen this before?

That's not uncommon at all-the fangs are replaced often-this is just a case in which the old fang has not yet fallen out in favor of its replacement.

The Avalanche has already started-it is too late for the pebbles to vote....

It’s a real good luck charm to find one like that. Like a four leaf clover. If you handle them like that for relocating, your luck is soon to run out, though.

Seriously, it's no joke. That's pretty much the most dangerous thing you can do with a venomous snake. I handle black mambas and the occasional 14 foot king cobra, but I won't grab a viper by the head unless it's absolutely necessary, which it almost never is. Too much risk for my tastes.

Oh, and yes, any given rattlesnake may have double fangs on one side, if not both, from time to time.

What goes up must come down...unless it exceeds escape velocity.
