What would I get?

mflores Jun 02, 2009 06:29 AM

Im looking to get a Male and was wondering what would be best and what would I get? I got a Normal female right now.

1) Spiderball
2) Pastel
3) Mojave

I have another question. What does it mean when it says
100% Het Piebald Male. What would be produced if I would breed with one of these? Thanks in advance.

Pastel, Spider, and Mojave are all codominant morphs. So no matter which one you picked, you would have a 50% chance of producing more of the same.
IE, Mojave X Normal = 50% Normals and 50% Mojaves.

If a snake is 100% het for something, like Piebald, Albino, or Clown, that means they are guaranteed to carry one of these recessive genes. They are produced when one of the parents is a visible morph, such as an Albino X Het. Albino pairing.

If you bred a 100% Het and bred it to a normal you would produce 50% hets for that morph. Which, to me, are essentially just normals.

Get what you like.

Piebald is a recessive gene. This means that the snake must get a copy of the gene from both parents to look like a piebald.
Het means the snake carries 1 copy of the gene. The snake LOOKS normal, because it only has one copy of the gene, so if you got one, you could produce hets and normals, depending on which gene gets passed on. The issue is you wouldn't know which were which until you bred them.
The 100% part just means the person KNOWS it is het. Let's say you breed a pied to a normal. The babies would all get a pied gene from dad, and a normal from mom, making them all het pied. You call them 100% het pied because you are 100% sure they are het.
