Introduction and question on longevity

bhh Sep 14, 2003 12:18 AM

Hi Folks:

I'm a long time lurker of this forum, and have appreciated all the info that folks have posted over the years. I have 1.1 BDs, the male being an 11 years old normal, and the female a 6 year old Red/Gold. As you can see from the picture below, my male, Bill, is still a tough old coot...whenever someone walks by his cage, he immediately starts head-bobbing to let everyone know that this is his territory. I got him from the "reject bin" at 4 weeks old, since he had lost half his tail. Hard to believe that back in 1992 I paid $75 for a normal baby missing half his tail!

My question is, what are the longevities that you have found for your BDs? I have checked Slavins, and a couple of vets, and some other folks around, but nobody else has a dragon this old. Bill's original mate died at age 7. By the way, he is still breeding (or at least trying!), although I did not get any eggs this year for the first time!

Glad to hear he's still going strong...I hope all my dragons live that long!

11 is a ripe old age, i think 7 is a good age and 12 is quite old, although i think, and dont quote me on this, the oldest was 15, but im really not too sure, but at 11 you really are doing great, and he really does look good! i love his stump tail, i have a lil guy that is missing a bit of tail, we call him our little "macetail" dragon hes not missing quite as much as bill but he still has a lil stumpy tail, and i wouldnt have him any different keep us updated on bill, he looks like quite the character
