So begins the wait!

anthony james mc Jun 03, 2009 01:11 AM

I bred the Super Crystal to this virgin Mojave female . As predicted (not bad for not having a ultrasound) she started to ovulate tonight. Looked like a good ovulation too so hopefully she'll lay a nice fertile clutch. The wait always kills me! Already have a few clutches around the 40 day mark that are just simply driving me nuts ,can only tell so much by candling at this point, lol.

Do you have any pics of the super crystal?

Also i was wondering what makes a super crystal or just a crystal?

anthony james mc Jun 03, 2009 01:40 PM

Here is the Super Crystal breeding that female Mojave.

A Crystal Ball is made by breeding the "Special" (as Tom Baker calls this particular codom gene) gene to a Mojave (odds of lining both codoms up are 1 in 4 ) or in theory any of the Lesser complex members.

If I get a good clutch to hatch from this particular pairing it will answer most if not all the questions about this project. There is some debate as to if the Super Crystal has Mojave in it or not. I myself think the Super Crystal is a Super Special without the Mojave gene in it BUT until he sires a decent clutch to look at it is only my opinion. I guess it will depend on if the 2 morphs are on the same allele or if we are instead seeing a "crossover" situation of the 2 genes , to early to say really.

Ask me that same question in 105 days (15 weeks), LOL!

Hey thanks Bill, my figures would be 105 days (7 weeks gravid 8 weeks till they pip) but either way it will be a wait for sure!

Best of luck out there!

Looks like you're on your way to another exciting clutch. Congrats.

Wouldn't it be great if incubators came with a "speed hatch" setting?
