Blatta lateralis Turkistan Roaches

Moonstone Jun 03, 2009 12:17 PM

Is anyone using this species for feeders and if so, what feedback do you have?

My babies love them, my older dragons are not impressed. Love the reproduction rate, but don't think they are better than dubia. My tarantulas used to love them now not so much.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

the turk roaches are fast right? Compaired to the dubia how fast are they?

alot faster!

They are like lightning. The babies love to chase them around. They do not fly or climb, they reproduce very fast, but my critters do not like them as much as they like dubia. My dubia colony can not keep up with my demand.

I'm not a fan of the turks. Not much meat on them. The only plus is that they don't climb...but you will get some males that fly. I prefer lobster roaches (soft and meaty) and they reproduce very fast. The only drawback is the climbing. My second choice would be discoids....my adults love them!

Yeah i used dubia roaches and just for one beardie you have to have a nice size coloney. I couldn't imagine how many you would need if you were feed a couple beardies

Thanks for the feed back. My question now is, how do you keep lobsters in a bin and where a dragon can reach then. I did hissers for a while...would drop the nymphs in the bins and over the side they went.

I smear a ring of vaseline around the tank just out of the dragon's reach. This keeps the roaches within "jumping" reach of the dragon, while minimizing the possibility of a greasy dragon, lol.

I thought you were going to say that....yuck. I do that on my cricket bins.

Thanks for the feedback.
