I have a cb98 generic blairs I purchased as a hatchling in 1998. This guy was my first (albeit not my only) greybanded king, and is currently the only greyband I have in my collection today. He appears to be losing weight. He regurged a meal two weeks ago, then refused to feed this past week. I am wondering if old age is finally catching up to him? He is only 11, and I quess could theoretically live a few more years. Does this seem normal?

He is most likely not too old. He needs to be checked for pathogens. Probably protozoan.

I caught a huge male from 277 (48" in 1990 and he lived until last year. I currently have a female that I caught, as a young adult in 1990, that is still doing great. Infact she is gravid this year.

I had an unexpected spike in temperature in the herp room with our crazy Louisiana weather the week he regurgitated, and am suspecting he became overheated. I have since added more cooling and am hoping that may have been the cause. I felt he was not too old either. A female corn I have that is the same age as him produced sixteen beautiful eggs this year and is hale and hearty.

Thanks

Rob, I live in Baton Rouge, LA. I used to be heavily into alterna and was smitten for quite some time. Work and family constraints forced me to sell off my alterna collection a few years ago. I am hedging on getting back into the alterna like I have the corns, but getting the darn babies started is HARD LOL!! I am not sure I want to put that much time into it with everything else going on!!

hatch them, try to feed them, they eat good , they don't, put them in a small fridge set at 55 degrees or so for 4 to 6 weeks,,,,they will eat more often...

a Doctor friend asked me why his didn'teat long ago...I told him all the tricks...none worked...I told him throw it in the fridge...he did, few weeks (like 3 maybe) came out and ate ...

NO I never bred alterna yet.....this is just a thought to speed up feeding for the time challenged....

good luck....

(I've also seen greys at shows for $15 before, they were overbred at the time and I assumed his wouldn't eat, no I didn't buy any)....
