Momasita, the collared frog

Rosebuds Jun 04, 2009 08:19 PM

Well, Momasita likes the 5th of the month to lay her eggs. Both of the previous clutches were laid on the 5th! Its the 4th, and she has started digging for the third time! She NEVER stopped eating this time or any other time until the night before laying. So, she is a TUB! LOL! She looks like a colorful, collared frog! She hates me for taking this butt shot!

She was my first collared to lay, and she has taught me so much about how things go when they go right! One thing she has taught me is to recognize that pre-laying look of utter panic in their eyes! I think I captured that look here.

The one that had trouble with the last egg is gaining, active and eating very well, and the other is very gravid with nice round limbs and tail, and is eating like a pig! The father is either Naiche(less likely)Baileyi, or Cheveyo, studly wt male from Nick and Austin!

I hope Momasita is laying her last clutch this season! She has laid 15 eggs so far, and looks like she is about to lay 7-8 more! I do not plan to brumate her this winter! I think I need to make her slow down next season, right??
