Babies born! Laddertails 3/8 Suriname!

RoswellBoa Jun 05, 2009 02:46 AM

I found Myra having her babies, around 9pm tonight...caught her right at the end, pushing out the last few...lots of laddertails...this is going to be an outstanding group of holdbacks

The mother is a 50% Suriname het albino, produced by Todd Smith and Dr. Bryan Wayne in 2003. I acquired her and two of her siblings, in early 2007; later that year she was paired with her laddertail brother, and produced the first Roswell male.

2007 Roswell male and laddertail siblings:

The father this year is an unrelated 25% Suriname het that was produced in 2004 by Steve Reiners of BoaMorph.

A group shot, after the cleanup...

Final count is:

6 normal pattern

4 normal pattern albino

4 laddertail albino (one stillborn)

11 laddertail

2 slugs

Ignoring the albinos, that makes 10 normal pattern, and 15 laddertail/connected pattern(presumed to be hets for Roswell, but further pairings are needed to be certain).

Something else interesting happened, two of the albinos are miniatures...they had some external yolk, and were a bit wound up in their umbilicals. The lighter colored one is very weak and I don't think it will survive...but the darker colored one appears fine, just really tiny...they are about half the size of the others...strange for sure:confused:. The darker colored one seems to be a laddertail...

I don't know what happened to the stillborn albino...looked fully formed, just wasn't alive...

More pics...

Those are a great looking bunch of babies (presumably some of which are Het Roswell). Gotta love the new baby pics. You've got a great project with the Roswells. Can't wait to see post-shed pics.

Congrats again,

Jay

RoswellBoa Jun 05, 2009 03:40 AM

Thanks Jay! If they color up anything like last years, it will be a sight to see...

It's remarkable how much some of the laddertails resemble their mother in every way...they could be clones, LOL

Once again, you have produced some amazing hets for a morph I can only dream of having! Those normals are freaking stunning! Bright red tails and crisp patterns... and the albinos are a real treat as well! I never tire of looking at photos of your animals...

Funny thing, I got a midget in one of my litters this year too... named her Midget Herbie, because she had a little kink in her tail right by the vent and when she gets moving it sticks up like an antenna! Obviously, mine is being kept as a pet due to the kink, but I thought it was interesting that you had some midgets yourself.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks! I think I got more sidestriping and heavy patterns this time around than any of the previous kids...I can't wait to see this group shed out

The mini boas were pretty cool...at first I thought they might be twins, but they each had their own egg membrane and yolk...

The very pale mini albino died overnight...but the other small one is still hanging in there...

I sure hope he makes it. I took a pic of him, in a sterilite shoebox, you can see how tiny he is...I can almost imagine it's an albino candoia ground boa...sooooo tiny!

I really like the squaretails.I think this morph improves the look of all other morphs. I especially like it when they get the hour glass shape. Are you holding back all the squaretails?

fgs Jun 05, 2009 08:24 AM

Heather Congratulations on producing another litter of beautiful Rosewell Laddertails.

Can't wait to see post shed photos of them.

Wow Heather! What a Boa Breeder you are! I don’t think anyone has been a more consistent a breeder than you have been. You couldn’t ask for greater babies each and every time! Great looking babies that pretty clearly show exactly how the Roswell Morph works in my mind. There may be a few babies that are borderline and not as obvious as others, but other than that, now two breedings from another male with the original females, I don’t think that leaves any doubt in anyone’s mind exactly how this mutation works. I am very happy for you and congratulate you! You have had very impressive results as an accomplished Boa Breeder.

Wow! WoW!! WOW!!!

on some Roswell animals... be it the hets or an actual Roswell... I just want IN on that project! One of these days I want to be able to lay a Roswell next to a Scoria and take some comparison shots of the two. Ahh... to dream...
