EGG BOUND !

MARK FARRELL Jun 05, 2009 07:48 AM

Hello all:
I have a 7 year old Eastern. After spending $536.00 for x-rays and diagnosis it seems she is egg bound. She has not eaten since late February. However she is still very robust, and active. The vet tube fed her and gave her some fluids. She (the Vet) also suggested to increase the heat in her cage. She was not concerned at this point because the female seemed to be in good shape and not in distress. She suggested waiting a week and then they would use something to induce her. She did say that if she was not able to pass the eggs, the surgery to remove them is dangerous.
Has anyone had a similar experience ?

Thanks,

Mark

Sorry to hear of your dilema, very sad news.
I am curious if the female has ever been bred before?

If so, how were her previous gestation/laying experiences,
were there any issues?

Sorry about the delayed response. I've been off the site. I have tried to breed her before. She has laid infertile eggs the last 3 years. Just like clock work. Mid march about 3 weeks after her pre- laying shed.
I've gotten some E-mails from some folks who have had similar issues. None have been easy. I'm just hoping I don't lose her. The eggs are no my main concern. I have another female who will be ready to breed in two years.
I'll keep things posted.

Thanks, Mark

Hey Mark,

This topic gets covered every so often usually as it's a fairly common problem. I think you could search the archives and get a bunch of different comments and opinions.

I hope you're able to get it cleared up.
