after more than half have pipped on their own....

50....what if the temps are off and it will take 65 days?...

what if forrid flies lay eggs in the egg after you cut it?...
(they will feed on dead tissue, defecate and create more dead tissue, and take away moisture the snake needs?)...

..anyways.....

you waited 50...actually year or more....years....what's another 10 days???........

......it's been 20 years and I am still waiting on some species....?

Why the need to cut them, they've evolved to pipe on their own, at the very least, wait till one has piped, nobody mentions the horror stories from prematurely cutting eggs and loosing that most desirable baby simply out of impatience.

Wait the few extra days and you will be rewarded accordingly.

Dude if you want to cut the eggs cut them. I have cut mine every year for the last 5 years on day 52-54 with temps at 89.7 without any problems. I know quite a few others that do it too and Im sure we arent the only ones. But people frown upon others that do it.

.......
I don't have an issue with people cutting eggs open, I have an issue with people saying you should cut them open, or that they cut on day 50 or that it does'nt hurt....

it may kill, it may cause the baby to jump prematurely and not absorb it's yolk sac,, some people have enough moisture that it might be ok, some eggs are kept too dry and opening them may be a bad thing on top of being too dry already, I have already seen baby pics in here this year with a newborn that was wrinkly and dry looking, that weird texture from being from an egg that was too dry ......

incubators with inner boxes with enough moisture and no forrid flies, all goes well....if people are using Hova-Bators with no inner boxes it can be a problem, if forrid or fruit flies are present, it can be a real problem,,,

...anyways....if people cut it really doesn't bother me, if all their babies die, it doesn't bother me.....

have fun Y'all

Most big breeders cut their eggs, either at a specific date (say "day 54" or as soon as the first baby slits. Yes, it's possible to make a mistake and cut too early, particularly if you aren't intimately familiar with the operation of your incubation setup, but such a mistake is rarely fatal-I've seen eggs cut as much as a week prematurely go on to hatch perfectly healthy neonates. If the neo's coloration is pale and indicates several days until natural hatching, just close up the flap and it will emerge in its own time.

Of course, no real purpose is served by cutting eggs open prematurely, other than to satisfy our own curiousity. But I always cut all eggs in a clutch once the first one slits, because this WILL save an occasional neo unable to slit on its own (for whatever reason)...

I have on two different occasions had eggs split apart very early in the incubation process (fluid leaking and all). I put the egg in a separate cup and put a piece of wet paper towel over the whole/split. The egg went on to hacth just fine both times.

So here is about the worst you can mess up cutting, I cut a corn egg two weeks early! I had my hephew helping me set up eggs so he could learn how to do it but he put the pre lay shed date on the egg tub and I cut on "day 60" well with 2 weeks left there was just a grey blob in there so I put the flap back and put it back . . . .well on the hatch date all of my corns hatched even the cut egg with twins. They were however the last two to come out but they are a great size for twins!

And a colubrid egg (generally much more delicate when it comes to cutting)to boot! Just shows how resilient an egg can be!
