I have been raising rats for my snakes for a very long time. I have used lots of different commercial rodent diets. Last year I started using FRM (Flint River Mills) brand Rodent Pellets. This product has higher protein and fat content than most other brands with 25% protein and 10% fat. My litters are now bigger than with other feeds and the babies grow quicker. The pellets are large so the feed works well with overhead half inch hardware cloth rack systems. I get 50 pound bags for less than 15 dollars at my local feed and seed store. All other brands cost lots more in this area. FRM is a Georgia Company and so their feeds may not be available or so reasonably priced outside the south eastern states. Feed with this high fat content may not be suitable if you are letting breeders get very old and fat before retiring them. I retire the females while they are still moderately productive and so they do not get fat. The males get to live longer here and are probably pretty high in fat content so I watch to make sure that each of my bigger snakes do not get too many of the retired males.
