My backyard boxie habitat

kingsnake1 Jun 06, 2009 11:32 AM

I took a few pics of my backyard box turtle habitat. It's not as pretty as some, but it has abundant hide spots, fresh fruit growing, dead and decaying logs that are full of beetles and sowbugs & 2 small ponds. One end gets about 3 hrs morning sunlight, the other about 5 hrs afternoon sunlight. all total, the enclosure is 160 sq ft. and houses 2.4 boxies.

Are you kidding??????????? That is a WONDERFUL enclosure for a boxie. I wish I had that. What kind of boxies do you have in there? Do the hibernate in the enclosure? My Three Toed is about 2 years now and I am debating if I should leave her out this winter.

I have 3 3-toed and 2 3-toe/eastern intergrades and 1 Eastern. The only problem with this habitat is that I can often go out there and never see a turtle. If they're not hungry, they usually stay hidden. But then again, that's what they do in nature.
I may add on to this thing soon. I use concrete backer board for the side walls, and to expand, I just swing a wall section out and add another one or two, depending on how much biggr I decide to go.
I saw one of the females digging around a little like she was about to lay eggs about a month ago. Hopefully I will have little ones soon.

It looks perfect Greg, very nice, motivation for me to finish building our big pond and then the boxie pen.
Thanks for sharing
