Water Monitor Sick

s36637 Jun 06, 2009 11:20 PM

Today I was changing out my water monitors water and he was puffed up like if he were taking a breath before swimming or before a hiss and I checked back later and he was still like that but sleeping, i picked him up and he barely opened his eyes and wouldnt move Hes filled with air and is not doing well at all. He was fine yesterday so I am not sure what happened... when I got him a month ago as a baby he was in poor condition the breeder obviously took poor care of him. I just dont want him to die on me anything I can do? I have been putting him in some water leaving his head above it so he could soak in case he was dehydrated so far thats all i can think of. Hes been very calm with handling and eating healthy... Temps have been 90 and 125 basking with opposite side at 80ish.

He died on the way to the animal emergency room... His stomach filled up with blood and a horrible stench came. They said they think it was something he ate or some kind of parasite. If you have any ideas what might have gone wrong please let me know I thought he was in excellent shape until today when i found him puffed up like that...

I dont recommend ordering from Reptilecity.com That is who I got the Monitor from. I also ordered 1,000 crickets from them and I never received them and its been 2months... They charged me and never sent them. They shipped the animal on a Friday and had it arriving on a monday in a normal usps box that wasnt marked at all and had only the corners on the envelope lifted for air. (i had no idea it wasnt being over nighted until it was already shipped or i wouldnt have ever ordered it)Thank god it arrived saturday and I was able to pick it up he wasnt even moving when I got him and I gave him food and soaked him and he started moving and i thought he was better until today....

Not a breeder, an importer. There are few people breeding water monitors, you would find them easily on the forums and they would have proof of breeding happening.
Get them from a much better source next time.
Probably a combination of things, could be disease, conditions, accidental intake of an object while not in good health, could be a reaction to medications such as deworming meds, alot of things.
