First clutch of 2009

robhaneisen Jun 07, 2009 01:06 AM

I'm actually a couple weeks early compared to previous years of Honduran clutches for me and the first clutch (Laid on June 5) was a nice start. Seven big eggs (one's not in the picture) from a tangerine albino to tangerine albino pairing. This is the female's second year breeding. Last year she laid two good eggs and four slugs, needing four days to finally pass them all. This year, her laying went much smoother and all of the eggs are fertile. All my other females appear gravid and I've got one female in the nest box post shed and three others in pre-egg lay shed and the rest not too far behind.

Nice looking clutch... is the father that huge albino you had on display at the show in Manchester back in April? I'm not normally into amels, but that was one impressive Hondo. Here's a picture of my female gaigeae taken this morning... she's about a week away from her pre-lay shed and looking like she's going to explode, so I'm hoping for a big clutch before the end of the month. That would mean hatchlings sometime in mid-September... about a week or two earlier than last year, fortunately. Trying to get those nine hatchlings eating in time for the show, and then selling them in various states of never eaten/never shed was a nerve wracking experince that I'd rather never repeat! Too bad the Manchester shows come but twice a year... ah well... see you in October... I'll make sure to double check the date this time!

Nate:

The sire for this clutch is that huge amel I had at the show. He's a stud breeder and always helps produce some nice and usually large hatchlings. Last time I measured him about a year ago he was a few inches under 6 feet.

Nice pic of your female. I hope she throws some good eggs for your this year. Both of my female black milks are gravid. If they can lay those clutch by July 1 I should hatchlings for the show in October. Otherwise, I'll hold them back and post up on KS or hand out "reservation cards" at the show for black milks. Ha!
