Gopher Tortoise Pen

BWSmith Jun 07, 2009 11:06 AM

The new Gopher Tortoise pen is coming along nicely. I still have to reinforce the top and add reed to the back side. The grass and veggies are starting to sprout. I planted a TON of grass and about 2 dozen packets of various veggies. I dug a couple shallow burrows for them and filled them with sand so she can dig and covered them with a halved pot. I got one palm planted, but I am going to pick up some Palmettos in south GA this year and see if I can get them to grow by mixing some extra sand in the soil.

It is 2' bamboo stakes driven 12" in the ground with reed fencing woven in and a solid crossbar across the top and secured at every point.

It will look better once allt he plants start growing (what doesn't get eaten or trampled)

Just curious. I haven't been on here in awhile and you might have explained but I haven't read it yet. How are you able to keep gophers? Legally I mean.

I hold permits for most protected species in GA.
