Bearded Dragon?

iguanafan Jun 07, 2009 04:48 PM

I live in south east Arizona and i was outside building an iguana enclosure when my boyfriend caught a lizard.i thought it was like all the lizards i see all the time but it looked different.I thought it might be a horny toad since those are really populated here but it wasn't as wide or had as short of body.I got on the internet and looked up a picture of a horny toad and bearded dragon.major difference.the lizard my bf caught looked like a bearded dragon.I've never seen one wild before and was wondering if it was even possible they live in Arizona.i know nothing about them or where they come from.I keep seeing a few but the local cats keep catching them before i can find any to take a picture of.My bf is trying to keep the one he found as a pet and any info would help.

Some horned and collard lizards look a bit like bd's - more likely that it was not a bearded dragon though.

Why don't you post a picture of the one your boyfriend has?

Here's and address to a Pogona Identification Key that may help.

Bearded dragons are not native at all to North America, they are an Australian animal. If the lizard your boy friend found is a bearded dragon, it would be an escaped or abandoned pet.

Pictures will make it alot easier to identify what you found.
